NOSE-ART is artwork applied (usually) to the nose of military aircraft to distinguish the plane and express the individuality of an air crew. Many artists have decorated airplanes, especially during times of armed conflict. Each allied nation has a selection of Nose-Art that has been preserved, duplicated and widely promoted for the innovative art form that it is.We now proudly introduce an internationally renowned Canadian artist who has spent the better part of a life time being captivated by and studying this art form. Clarence Simonsen has dedicated 40 years to researching the history of many military aircraft from construction to demolition and of the crews that flew the planes. He has also reproduced a number of Nose Art paintings, many of which were painted on skins taken from salvaged bombers.
This artist is unique in that he has consistently focused on art that has graced aircraft crewed by members of the Canadian forces. He is now offering these reproductions and accompanying research to the general public.
The reproductions produced by this artist, combined with the detailed research that has accompanied each piece of art has led the foremost warbird magazine "Fly Past", published in the U.K., to refer to Clarence Simonsen as "Mr. Nose Art".
