Other Special Presentations

On Tuesday evening 21st July 1998, a special tribute was made to all who served in bomber command, WWII. A film was shown of the recovery of Halifax bomber NA337 from a lake in Norway. The plane weighing 40,000 lbs., was retrieved from the lake at a depth of 750 ft. First officer Karl Kjarsgaard described the recovery and film production. A second Halifax bomber was recovered in Belgium which contained the remains of three Canadians. The son of the late airmen presented a propeller blade from the downed bomber to the aero space museum association of Calgary. Doug Summerhayes, son of mid-upper gunner Jack Summerhayes made the presentation on behalf of no. 426 sqdn. RCAF and the Halifax aircraft association of Trenton, Ontario.

Clarence Simonsen presented two nose art panels painted on Halifax skin from bomber NA337.

Presented to special guest Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes, consulate general of the United States of America, [Alberta] a painting of nose art ‘Gallopin’ Gerty’ which had two American crewmembers who served in the RCAF.

To the confederate air force Arizona Wing [B-17 Sentimental Journey] a second nose art painting of ‘Gallopin’ Gerty’.

June 1994, presented to Calgary Police Service, Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety, “HAWC 1”.

The Nose Art was painted on original world War Two Avro Anson aircraft skin from the Aero Space Museum of Calgary.

July 1996- presentation to shock trauma air rescue society [stars] helicopter nose art. Painted on World War Two Norseman aircraft skin. This aircraft flew in Saskatchewan as air ambulance.

This art was created and given to pilot Steve Nierlich, Canadian “Top-Gun” award winner in the United States “William Tell” fighter pilot competition in October 1996.

Presented in spring of 1997, in honor of pilot Nierlich No. 410 [Cougar] Squadron, Cold Lake, Alberta.

April 2003 - nose  art display in aero space museum of Calgary, Alberta. 21 panels from NA337 painted in replica nose art used by No. 6 [RCAF] group in world war two.

10 may 2003 - nose art panels for use with Mat Ferguson event at Nanton Lancaster Society Museum, event for Canada’s most famous aircraft painter.
