One of the thirteen - “Willie Wolf”

Halifax Mk. VII, serial NP717, was from a batch of 43 built between 16 June and 30 July 1944. In total 42 of the aircraft were issued to No. 6 [RCAF] Group with the most [28] going to No. 432 [Leaside] squadron, followed by 13 arriving with No. 426 squadron. Nine of the No. 426 aircraft were transferred to No. 408 squadron, including NP717 which arrived with 408 on 13 July 1944. The aircraft received the code letters EQ-W and flew her first operation on 4 August 1944 to bomb Bois de Cassen, France. Nineteen [19] different crews flew the Halifax, 13 completed only one operation in NP717. Two crews flew her the most, P/O T.V. Barber J86279, [10 Ops.] and S/L A. Rossenberry J8679, [12 Ops.], including her last on 18 May 1945 to Heligoland.

With the war over NP717 was struck off charge by the RCAF on 20 May 45 and ordered to Rawcliffe, No. 43 Group for breakdown, where she arrived on 24 May 45.
