Climate change can be a security issue as well as an environmental one, stated Anthony Cary, British High Commissioner to Canada, in an address to the Ottawa luncheon of the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome on Wednesday April 25, 2007.
The Commissioner noted the environmental effect of climate change can result in conditions that could lead to security problems, such as the migration of people due to drought or floods.
He said that the European Union is very concerned about the anticipated global warming and most member countries are taking major steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
